VISION ON SOUND - EPISODE 2

VISION ON SOUND - ADVENTURES IN TWENTIETH CENTURY TELEVISION... AND BEYOND...!

Where the television of the past… …becomes the conversation of the present.

Join us as we take a nostalgic journey through the television vaults, and my guests and I investigate, discover, enjoy, and chat about a whole world of televisual delights, with some occasional nonsense thrown in from time-to-time.

Episode two is. Perhaps, a little more like the kind of show I ultimately envisioned VISION ON SOUND becoming, with interviews and chat making for a hopefully agreeable mix.

I am joined in the studio (Fab Radio’ International’s very own tiny TARDIS), by SANDY McGREGOR (who is not the same SANDY McGREGOR as the one mentioned in STINGRAY) to give me someone to natter to, which does help things tick along when my brain jumps out of my ears when I’m trying to wrangle all of the buttons and dials of the recording desk.

The theme of the week is REMAKES AND REIMAGININGS although, perhaps surprisingly, we have barely got started before we run out of our allotted time, so we will becoming back to this topic sooner than any of us thought we would.

There’s also half of an interview with MARTIN UNSWORTH who very kindly agreed to be telephoned by a complete stranger to talk about his love of 1970s media

First broadcast on FAB RADIO INTERNATIONAL at 19:00 on October 18 2020

In the second edition of VISION ON SOUND I have a studio guest as my pal SANDY McGREGOR and I talk about remakes and reimaginings of TV series.  In the process we discuss DALEKS INVASION EARTH 2150AD (a reimagining of DOCTOR WHO), MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE, STAR TREK, and THE SINGING DETECTIVE, amongst others.

I also interview MARTIN UNSWORTH, the assistant editor of STARBURST MAGAZINE, about the 1970s feature film versions of all those sitcoms of the time.

PLEASE NOTE - For Copyright reasons, musical content has to be removed for the podcast edition. All the spoken word content remains (mostly) as it was in the broadcast version. Hopefully this won't spoil your enjoyment of the show.

"It's mostly the same as the broadcast edition. Mostly..."

In terms of that steep learning curve, we learned two important things during this show. The first is not to talk over the music (part of our STAR TREK chat had to be excised because of this) and the second is not to refer to the music that podcast listeners can no longer hear.

This was more of a problem when I came to take the scissors to episode three, but some of you find that out soon enough, I suppose.

As ever, we would recommend that (if you can – I know that you’re all terribly busy on Sunday evenings), you listen to the programmes on first transmission (currently SUNDAY EVENING AT 7:00PM in the UK on FAB RADIO INTERNATIONAL Channel 1) to get the show as nature intended, with all of those soon to be excised tunes still neatly slotted into our natterings.

New suggestions for the show (and contact details for possible guests to interview if you know any) are always welcome. You can email the show at vos@fabradiointernational.com or contact me via the Twitter feed @VisionOnSound1 and, hopefully, we can all keep the conversation going.

As ever, thanks to PAUL RIPLEY and everyone at FAB RADIO INTERNATIONAL for this opportunity, and thanks to you all for taking an interest.

“After a while, the style settles down a bit and it begins to tell you things you really need to know...”

Take care.
